What is peace? Peace is defined as freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquillity. Peace is like a boat anchored in the middle of nowhere and the sea is calm. Peace is a desire of all humans. And peace starts with you and me.

As youths we should be in the forefront in helping a country to be peaceful. It’s our duty to maintain, build and grow peace. John Lennon once said, peace is not something you wish for, it’s something you make, it’s something you do, something you are and something you give away. Peace begins with you. Always before you do anything ask yourself will it contribute to peace?

Peace and security of the citizen is one of the core elements of a good nation. Countries that are considered to be peaceful have very low homicide and crime rate, corruption is low, and the voter turnout is usually high. Countries like Finland which has a GPI Score of 1.277 is one of the least corrupt countries in the world. It has a strong legal framework which maintains the government’s accountability and openness. Finland ranks in top level for education and gender equality. Finland demand no fee for any level of education. The Finns are also high performers in reading, mathematics and science. The country has very low maternal mortality rate.

The truth is peace is more than just a having no wars. Peace is having clean cities, low crime, high quality food, peace is low incarceration and friendly relation among the citizens peace is good governance and judiciary system.

Peace contributes to a happy country, good health, good economy, education growth, even good weather. Peace begins with the youth, the leaders, me and you. Peace is forgiveness. All of us can contribute to peace in our country. Always remember, love is the greatest source of peace. Jimmy Hendrix once said, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will know peace.” Peace is power of love and not love of power. I believe and envision, of a peaceful Tanzania.

God Bless TZ
